FACT SHEET
“Save Your Factory” Background
Competition in the manufacturing industry is escalating as North American corporations struggle to compete in the global marketplace. A variety of outside pressures, including a difficult economy and increased customer demand, has forced industries to look closely at methods to reduce operating costs. In recent years, the trend had been to abandon existing facilities and ship operations overseas to take advantage of low labor costs. Recently, hidden costs such as increased taxes, high shipping rates, and lack of product control has caused manufacturers to instead improve their North American factory and streamline the manufacturing process. The result: lower overall costs and an abundance of jobs that remain in North America.
