The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) was formed in 1932 by 22 tool engineers and master mechanics who wanted to share their knowledge in order to improve their operations. Today, SME serves more than a half million manufacturing executives, managers and engineers through its industry dialogs and engineering curriculum enhancements, as well as its publications, expositions, conferences, professional development resources and member programs. And its focus includes all industries that employ manufacturing engineers: aerospace, electronics, machine tool, consumer products and others. By constantly educating leaders in the latest processes, technologies, and advancements in manufacturing, SME helps strengthen the manufacturing industries, and therefore the entire economy.
