Lincoln Electric, the world leader in the design, development and manufacturing of arc welding equipment has joined the Save Your Factory initiative to help keep manufacturers in North America. By becoming a member, Lincoln has once again shown its dedication to promoting North America's economic strength.
The Save Your Factory initiative was created to address the growing number of companies that have been moving their manufacturing operations offshore because of the attraction of their low wage labor. A consortium of organizations quickly saw that many companies were moving overseas with incomplete information and analysis of the costs and benefits. For these companies, the original cost-savings estimates of 30%, 40% and 50% turned out to be greatly reduced when additional costs, such as shipping and complications in the production process, were entered into the equations. Many companies that moved their factories offshore also found that their product quality suffered, turnaround times increased, and proprietary information was being stolen. Lincoln Electric joined the Save Your Factory initiative because it aims to educate companies on how lean manufacturing, robotics and automation, process improvements, and advances in technology could increase their global competitiveness without the need to outsource to a low wage country.
Lincoln Electric's commitment to providing the most innovative, cost-effective, quality welding and cutting solutions is one that has guided the company since it was founded in 1895. The Cleveland, Ohio based company has manufacturing operations, joint ventures and alliances in 18 countries and a worldwide network of distributors and sales offices covering more than 160 countries. Lincoln's global workforce totals approximately 7,000. The international nature of the company and their technological leadership has enabled Lincoln to provide reliable solutions for their customers. Their insights on the global market, as well as their dedication to using pioneering techniques to improve their own operations have considerably enhanced the Save Your Factory initiative knowledge base.
