In recent years, the rise of low wage labor countries has increased competition for manufacturers in North America. Many companies have decided to sell existing facilities and move their manufacturing operations offshore. However, many of these companies move their operations without doing a complete analysis of the total costs of offshoring or the cost-benefits of alternative solutions, such as lean manufacturing and automation. Save Your Factory offers resources that demonstrate the effectiveness in improving efficiency of current facilities and streamlining the manufacturing process. The National Council for Advanced Manufacturing has joined this new initiative to better inform companies of the competitive advantage of manufacturing in North America.
The National Council for Advanced Manufacturing (NACFAM) is an industry-led, policy research organization with the express aim to shape public policies and programs to make U.S. manufacturing globally competitive. NACFAM has been collaboratively working with key leaders from industry, education, and government since 1989. NACFAM convenes its members and key stakeholders to identify, research, and communicate proposals in a non-partisan, non-lobbying environment. Participants include manufacturing firms, associations, universities, members of Congress, federal agencies, among others.
The membership to the Save Your Factory initiative is an extension of NACFAM services. NACFAM provides leadership and services through creating conditions for U.S. industry to achieve higher levels of productivity, innovation and competitiveness. Both organizations help inform manufacturers through special events, reports, and newsletters.
Save Your Factory and NACFAM recognize that the primary driver of economic and productivity growth in North America is based in manufacturing. By offering white papers, case studies, video testimonials, and articles, Save Your Factory demonstrates how manufacturers can increase productivity and quality, while reducing inventory, lead times, and cost of production through manufacturing practices and robotic automation. The National Council of Advanced Manufacturing offers scholarly insight to innovative improvements that can be made to improve manufacturing processes. Both organizations offer alternatives to increase manufacturing competitiveness without the high cost of offshoring.
